Fact-checking
Before publication
- Each claim is checked against the sources listed under the story. Names, dates, amounts and quotes must match the source.
- Every story carries a fact-check status. Stories that could not be verified are not published.
- Stories marked partially verified say so at the top, and are updated once the remaining details are confirmed.
- Regulation and responsible gambling stories are reviewed by an editor before publication.
After publication
When a story changes materially, we show the update time and a short note explaining what changed. Errors are handled under our corrections policy.
What we will not do
- Publish figures that are not in a source, or estimate them without saying so.
- Present opinions, forecasts or rumours as facts.
- Make up quotes or reviews.
